Green Flag Award to Hopetoun Crescent Garden

The Green Flag Award was launched in 1996 and still sets the benchmark against which parks and green spaces are measured, similar to the Blue Flag Award for beaches. This year was the first time Hopetoun Crescent Garden had been entered and we were awarded a Green Flag - one of only ten across Scotland! Our Chairman, Mitchell Manson, travelled
to Bournemouth for the Awards Ceremony in July and collected the certificate and flag on behalf of the FHCG and Edinburgh Council. This recognition is a fitting reward for the years of effort put into upgrading the former site of the Royal Botanic Garden which had become a derelict wilderness by the 1990s. The Council, staff from the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Friends have all worked closely together to create this pleasant woodland glade in the heart of our busy city. We would like to congratulates the other Edinburgh Green Flag winners - Braidburn Valley Park, Easter Craiglockhart Park, Harrison Park and the Pentland Hills Regional Park, all of which are much larger than our wee oasis.
